About Me

How I work with clients

I find that there is a wide range when it comes to the readiness for change with clients. Some people come to counseling at the suggestion of a significant other, family member or friend in order to address behaviors. Other people meet with a counselor because they are uncertain what to do with the problems they are facing. I believe that one of the most important aspects needed for a client entering counseling is a desire to deepen the connection and understanding with themselves, and a willingness to change what isn’t working.

My Story

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a specialty in substance abuse and addictions. I received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University (ASU) in 2013. While at ASU, I worked in my practicum and internship with students experiencing problems related to alcohol and substance abuse, as well as interpersonal issues, depression, anxiety, stress and anger management. During my internship at the University Counseling Center, I helped facilitate a Mindfulness Group, which established a practice for me that continues in my personal life as well as a main focus for my counseling practice.

After completing my Masters Degree, I worked in a variety of substance abuse programs in western North Carolina, and returned to my home state of Georgia in January 2016. I have since worked with clients primarily in outpatient settings, including Metropolitan Counseling Services in Brookhaven, Training and Counseling Center at St. Luke’s, and Centered Recovery Programs, a substance-abuse program in Roswell, Georgia.

My Mission

My goal as a therapist is to address your original concerns and hopes for counseling, to recognize areas of potential change, and to promote acceptance of perceived flaws. I try to do this through traditional talk therapy, by incorporating Mindfulness, and by offering an exercise called Emotional Freedom Techniques, which is also known as Tapping.
